Wild Factor

In short, I started my adventure on the 21st of February in Cape Town South Africa. I cycled north from Cape Town across the Karoo into Lesotho. In Lesotho, I attempted to hike the Drakensberg Grand traverse. Sadly I got an injury on day 3 and had to chicken out by hiking down into South Africa.

From Lesotho, I cycled northeast to Swaziland where I spend time on small adventures with a business called Swazi Trail. River rafting, cycling, hiking was the name of the game.

From Swaziland, I headed directly to Mozambique. After spending a while in the Capital Maputo I headed north till I got confronted with the war in central/northern Mozambique. I made a choice to head back to SA.

In South Africa, I cycled north through the Blyde River canyon mountain range. This was some very special cycling till I reached the Zimbabwean border. The Beitbridge border post is definitely a horrid border to cross, but cycling in Zimbabwe itself was a load of fun. I enjoyed the people as well as the vast open space.

Two weeks later I arrived in Zambia where I put my head down pushed for Malawi. In Zambia, I had some fun times on back roads and sharing some cycling and police stations with Tomas a New Zealander.

Next up was Malawi where I spend time hiking and running on Mount Mulanje (their highest mountain). I was refreshing to spend some time in the mountains but my adventure truly started when I started my kayaking adventure across Lake Malawi. With the help of Fish Eagle Bay Lodge, I was able to use their 'Feel Free' kayak to paddle 600km across the lake. It took me 35 days of fighting sunstroke, hippo's and storms.

After this whole Malawi endeavour, I got back on my bike and headed for Tanzania. Tanzania was a rather special place. It was hot and windy in some areas but the people and the scenery were magnificent! I headed north via Dodoma to find myself on the slopes of Mount Meru. This is a stunning part of the world even though rather touristy. I spend some time there doing some hiking on Meru but was excited to get myself to Kenya, so I didn't stay too long.

A few days later I arrived In Kenya. Sadly the local bank misplaced my money thus I had to play with my fingers close to the border for a week. Luckily I had some time to rest and enjoy good food and good company at a little guesthouse. After a while, I got on my bike and ended my 8-month trip in Nairobi!

Still waiting for my money though...
